Freiburg (dpa) – Before the collision of two trams in Freiburg with 14 injured people, a switch may have been set incorrectly. The cause of the accident has not yet been finally determined, said the operations manager of Freiburger Verkehrs AG (VAG), Johannes Waibel, of the German Press Agency on Thursday in Freiburg. “But it looks as if there was a miscarriage on a switch.”

Waibel confirmed police information that a tram was torn apart in the middle by the force of the impact. The vehicle is around 30 years old and probably no longer usable. The other train involved in the accident is around eight years old and needs to be repaired. The accident caused disruptions on two VAG lines.
