Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – In the midst of a heated conflict between Russia and Ukraine, these two countries suddenly aligned. Investigate a calibration, it turns out Israel played a part in this.
Benjamin Netanyahu returns to the post of Prime Minister of Israel. Netanyahu was sworn in as prime minister after serving in the opposition on Thursday (29/12/2022). He led what analysts call the far-right government in Israel’s history.
Support for his return to the leadership of the Israeli government came from two heads of state, namely Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Putin welcomed the return of Netanyahu and signaled his intention to enhance constructive cooperation between the two countries.
“I hope the new government under his leadership will continue the line of strengthening Russian-Israeli cooperation in all areas for the benefit of our people, to ensure peace and security in the Middle East,” Putin said in a message to Netanyahu ./ 12/2022).
“In Russia, we highly appreciate your personal and long-term contribution to strengthening friendly relations between our countries,” Putin continued.
Furthermore, the Russian Foreign Ministry said it was ready to pursue constructive cooperation with Israel aimed at “cleaning up the climate in the Middle East and the international scene in general”.
Besides Putin, Zelensky also congratulated and wished Netanyahu success for Israel’s prosperity and security via his Twitter account.
Regarding cooperation, Zelensky also stated that he is ready to strengthen cooperation with Israel. “…Ukraine’s readiness for close cooperation to strengthen our ties and address common challenges, achieve prosperity and victory over evil,” he tweeted.
As is known, after the start of the Russian offensive against Ukraine in February, Israel has taken a cautious stance towards Moscow, trying to maintain neutrality.
Israel particularly emphasizes the special relationship between the two countries, as Israel has more than one million citizens of the former Soviet Union. So much so that so far Israel has not supplied Ukraine with weapons, despite Zelenskyj’s repeated requests.
