“I often pretended in front of my friends that I didn’t know Vietnamese at all. In retrospect, it was pretty stupid. But I wasn’t alone, a lot of Vietnamese born in the Czech Republic tried to deny the Vietnamese culture within themselves and maybe even forcefully make it clear that they belong to Czech society,” says Viet Tran, who is trying to open up the Vietnamese community more. “Sometimes someone says that it is normal to touch foreign Vietnamese, that they are reed workers and Dzhongs. But as a journalist, I encounter it less and less,” he adds.
