Disease prevention: high blood pressure, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, heart disease, stroke

Dr. Hu Nianzhi pointed out that among the diseases reported by the National Health Service among those over 65 years old who have been diagnosed by doctors, the highest is “hypertension”, accounting for about 53%, which means that at least one out of every two people has high blood pressure.

Hypertension has the latest diagnostic criteria. Now, if the systolic blood pressure is 130 and the diastolic blood pressure is 80, it will be judged as a group prone to high blood pressure. If you are already taking high blood pressure drugs, but the numbers are still on the high side, it means that the drug Adjustments are required for use.

Nowadays, there is great emphasis on home measurement to reduce the tension caused by seeing a doctor and increase measurement accuracy.

Current medical mainstream consciousness emphasizes that blood pressure control standards should no longer be relaxed as age increases. All people should be treated equally and should be controlled within 130 systolic blood pressure and 80 diastolic blood pressure.

Dr. Hu Nianzhi mentioned, “Prescribing blood pressure medicine is not to make the numbers look good, but to avoid stroke and cardiovascular disease.” According to data from the well-known medical magazine “Lancet”, lowering blood pressure by 5mmHg will reduce coronary artery disease and stroke by 21%. 34%; a 10mmHg reduction reduces the risk of stroke by 56% and coronary artery disease by 37%.

Vaccinations: Influenza, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Shingles

In terms of influenza vaccine, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia all recommend that those over 65 years old be vaccinated with MF59 (adjuvanted vaccine).

As for the pneumococcal vaccine, Streptococcus pneumoniae often hides in the oropharynx of the human body. As age increases and immunity decreases, it will wait for opportunities to move, which may cause invasive pneumonia and encephalitis. People over 65 years old should be especially careful. Among the pneumococcal vaccines, PCV13 and PCV15 are the vaccines that must be given first, followed by PPV23 one year later.

Finally, there is the herpes zoster vaccine. In addition to preventing herpes zoster, the focus is on preventing post-herpetic neuralgia, which has an incidence rate of up to 40% in people over 60 years old, and is wide and dangerous. High, seriously affecting life.

The new herpes vaccine (Shingrix) has a protective effect of up to 90% and can be administered after the age of 50.

Nutritional supplement: Vitamin D

Vitamin D is a nutrient that everyone often lacks, and it can help supplement it in three ways to prevent diseases in old age.

Sun exposure: 11:00-13:00 is the best time, 15-20 minutes each time. Do not wear sunscreen, as too much sun exposure is useless.

Diet: fish, milk, algae, fungus.

Supplements: Vitamin D and other related health supplements.

“Living is Dying!” Hu Nianzhi shared that every one more day of living is actually one more day of preparation for death. Regarding end-of-life preparations, she also encourages everyone to participate in advance medical consultation and decide in advance the medical decisions they should make before dying.
