Recently, we reported that Embracer Group was looking to sell Saber Interactive (publisher/developer of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marines II, Expedition: Mudbringer Games, and more) for approximately $500 million.
now at EmbracerWe have more details on this departure in a new post. Embracer has announced that it will cease all operations in Russia, divesting some studios to Saber Interactive. Saber left in a deal worth about $247 million.
Embracer said it divested assets, including 38 ongoing game projects, as well as studios such as 3D Realms, Slipgate Ironworks, New World Interactive, Nimble Giant, Sandbox Strategies, Mad Head Games, Fractured Byte and Digic. It’s worth noting that this doesn’t include Metro developer 4A Games, which is currently developing what many consider the next major entry in the series.
Saber still has the option to acquire the Ukrainian-Maltese developer, but it is unclear whether it will remain with Embracer Group. Embracer also retains control of 13 other projects previously overseen by Saber.
The split doesn’t appear to be as clean as we once thought, as some studios remain at Embracer while others are spun off to the newly privately held Saber Interactive. We’ll have to wait and see more specific details on what this means for upcoming projects and games.

According to a new tweet from Jason Schreier, it looks like Embracer will not be retaining 4A Games. Schreier claimed that the total price tag for Saber Interactive’s return to independence would be around $500 million, as Saber took over the studio along with Zen Studios, which Bloomberg reported last month.
