The Embracer Group. recently said that it was evaluating the future of Free Radical Design and now we know that the decision to close the studio has gone ahead. The possibility of the studio closing before Christmas has now been confirmed.
At the end of November, reports emerged about the possible closure of Free Radical Design, something that was confirmed by Embracer. Now, we have the first reactions that confirm yet another studio closed by the group once known for investing and buying production companies around the world.
The British Free Radical Design returned in 2021, after being closed for around 6 years, as a subsidiary of Deep Silver and with the aim of bringing back the Timesplitters series, but this will not happen as the studio was closed again.
As unofficially announced, the studio was closed on December 11, 2023 and joins the growing list of production companies closed by Embracer. In addition, the group laid off numerous employees in its subsidiaries around the world, as part of a current restructuring.
It’s been a great 2 and a quarter years at Free Radical Design, sad to see us go.
