EmblemHealth Abruptly Closes Three Bronx Clinics, Leaving Thousands Without Care

NEW YORK — Nonprofit health insurer EmblemHealth has abruptly closed three clinics in the Bronx, “a severe blow” that has left thousands of patients without medical care and 90 staff members without jobs, according to Senator Luis Sepulveda.

In a public statement about the suspensions of the BronxDocs clinics, Sepúlveda calls the closures, which took place just days before Christmas “without adequate notice or a viable alternative plan… insensitive,” as well as “irresponsible and dangerous.”

“The abrupt closure of the facilities at E149th St., Southern Boulevard and Westchester Avenue is more than just a nuisance; it is a severe blow to a community already facing significant health disparities,” Sepúlveda’s statement reads in part. “These centers have been a lifeline for 12,000 patients, many of whom are vulnerable and rely on these locations for life-saving treatments.”

Sepúlveda explains in his public statement that the “closure forces patients to seek care in other districts, creating substantial barriers for those with limited mobility or financial restrictions.”

Therefore, the senator implores Emblem Health to reconsider the decision and find “an immediate solution to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services for affected patients.”

EmblemHealth has not responded to Telemundo 47’s request for comment.
