The NBA named Philadelphia center Joel Embiid and Phoenix point guard Chris Paul the best players of the past week.
Elected best player of the month for December, Joel Embiid has not yet been player of the week in the NBA this season. It is now done. The Cameroonian pivot was awarded this honorary title on Monday for the Eastern Conference. The 27-year-old Cameroonian had a great time again this week with Philadelphia.
The 76ers have won all three games, against New Orleans, the Lakers and Sacramento, and Embiid averaged 34.7 points, 11.7 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 2.3 blocks in those three games, peaking at 42 points and 24 rebounds against the Pelicans. Thanks to their superstar’s tremendous performances, the 76ers are now third in the Eastern Conference, a game and a half behind leaders Miami. It’s been a year, almost to the day, since Joel Embiid hasn’t been voted best player of the week. This is the sixth time he has received this award, the first having arrived five years ago.

On the side of the Western Conference, it is Chris Paul who is voted player of the week. As part of an unstoppable Phoenix team, which remains on a 10-game winning streak and tops the standings (3.5 games ahead of second-placed Golden State), the point guard contributed to the four wins of the week (two vs. Utah, one vs. Minnesota, one vs. San Antonio), averaging 22.3 points, 7.5 rebounds and 12.8 assists, peaking at 20 points, 8 rebounds and 19 assists against the Spurs. It’s the fourteenth time since February 2006 that the 37-year-old point guard has been voted player of the week, but it hasn’t happened to him since December 2017, when he wore the Houston jersey.
