Wife involved in crime sentenced to 3 years in prison
On the 11th, the 14th Criminal Settlement Division of the Seoul South District Court (Chief Justice Kim Dong-hyun) sentenced Mr. Lee (46), former head of the finance team at Osstem Implant, to 35 years in prison and a 30 million won fine for embezzling more than 200 billion won from the company.
The court convicted Lee, who was charged with embezzlement and other charges under the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes Act, and ordered him to collect 115,187,970,555 won.
His wife, Park, who participated in the crime, was also sentenced to three years in prison for violating the Criminal Proceeds Concealment Control Act. His sister-in-law and sister were each sentenced to two years in prison and three years’ probation for the same charges.
The judge said, “Even if the defendant suffers the punishment after the accident, there are traces of calculation that he will secure the property or use the property after release to enjoy the profits,” he explained why.
Mr. Lee was arrested and charged in January last year on charges of transferring a total of 221.5 billion won from a corporate account to a securities account in his name on 15 occasions from November 2020 to October 2021, and then use it for equity investments.
