‘Embassy personnel escaped from Kabul with the help of special forces’ | Inland

“After a thousand difficulties and problems, we managed to get rid of all the local staff plus some Afghan-Dutch families,” the embassy official said. ,,I worked closely with the special forces, who helped enormously.” The group was flown to Islamabad in Pakistan and from there to the Netherlands.

The embassy staff and their families were left behind when the Dutch embassy staff were led away with American help because of the rapid advance of the Taliban.

Relieved

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 207 people have been transferred to the Netherlands. Outgoing Foreign Minister Sigrid Kaag was relieved on Saturday with the evacuation. Back in the Netherlands, the Afghans are received in the barracks in Zoutkamp in Groningen.

Another C-17 departed from Kabul in the night from Saturday to Sunday. This includes 86 people who have the Netherlands as their final destination.
