“Embassy of Iran in Saudi Arabia Reopens after Seven-Year Disconnection”

For the first time in the last seven years, the Embassy Iran Of Arab Saudi reopened its gates on Wednesday (12/4) local time. This is done after Tehran and Riyadh agreed to restore diplomatic ties disconnected for years.

As reported ReutersThursday (13/4/2023), a reporter Reuters on the ground reported that the main gate at the Iranian Embassy compound in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, was reopened on Wednesday (12/4) local time, with a team seen inspecting the diplomatic building.

A white truck appeared at the gate of the embassy complex.

The diplomatic mission opened hours after Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced that a technical delegation had arrived in Riyadh.

“The Iranian delegation will take necessary steps in Riyadh and Jeddah to prepare embassies and consulates general,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said in a statement.

The Iranian Embassy in Riyadh has been closed since Saudi Arabia cut off diplomatic relations with Iran in 2016, after its embassy in Tehran was attacked by demonstrators during a dispute between the two countries over the execution of a Shiite cleric by the Riyadh authorities.

At the time, Saudi Arabia called on Iranian diplomats to leave Riyadh within 48 hours, while Saudi diplomatic staff were evacuated from its embassy in Tehran.
