In the end, the Lakers lost in Memphis 114:131, and an action by “King James” in particular caused a lot of discussion afterwards.
LeBron provokes Morant
A good minute before halftime, James brought the Lakers, who had to do without their injured co-star Anthony Davis, to within five points with a powerful basket (the Grizzlies only led 55:50).

The Lakers superstar used his physical superiority in the duel with Morant, pushed him away – and then let him know how superior he felt: When Morant, unbalanced by James’ push, was lying on the floor, he turned himself in The four-time NBA champion stood over him and indicated with his hand just above the floor that the guard was simply too small, too frail to defend him.

A well-known gesture in the NBA, often used in similar situations – although in James’ case it has aged extremely poorly.
Morant reacts to provocation
First, Morant retaliated a little later with a shove in the back of James, for which the Grizzlies star received a technical foul.
After the game, the guard responded to a social media post showing James’ action and let his opponent know that he still lost.
Users on social media reacted similarly. “How did the game end again?” quite a few users asked, while others celebrated the “King”.

Grizzlies take down Lakers
Memphis went into the second half with a six-point lead – and then went one step further. In the end, the Grizzlies beat James and Co. by 17 points.
It didn’t help the Lakers that James was the game’s top scorer with 39 points (plus 7 rebounds and 6 assists). His plus/minus value of -21 was by far the worst of all players on the floor.
Memphis held together as a collective: Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Jaylen Wells each scored 20 points. LeBron’s son Bronny James played five minutes for Los Angeles, didn’t hit any of his two shots from the field, but scored two points at the free throw line.
In the Western Conference table, the Lakers are only in 10th place with a record of 4-4, one place behind Memphis (5-4).
