CRITICAL: Scarlett Johansson is among those who get to know Stephen Dorff’s anger over the film industry. Photo: PA / AP

“True Detective” star Stephen Dorff is critical of Scarlett Johansson’s career choice.

– This year’s Oscar award was the most embarrassing I’ve ever seen, he says in an interview with the British newspaper Independent.

– The industry is starting to become a “game show”. You have actors who have no idea what they are doing. You have filmmakers who have no idea what they are doing. TV, film – it’s just a j **** mess of content now, the actor adds.

Dorff made his international breakthrough in the film “The Gate” in 1987. Since then, he has starred in independent and more artistic films, such as Sofia Coppola’s film “Somewhere” in 2010.

He is best known for his role as detective Roland West in the hit series “True Detective”.

But one role he is determined he does not want, namely the role of Black Widow in the Marvel series – played by Scarlett Johansson.

– I think the film looks like rubbish

– I’m still hunting for the good stories. I do not want to play in «Black Widow». I think the movie looks like rubbish. It looks like a bad video game. I’m embarrassed on behalf of these people, he says.

– I’m embarrassed on Scarlett’s behalf. Okay, she probably got five, seven million dollars, but I’m embarrassed on her behalf! I do not want to be in such movies. Really not, he continues.

And adds that he would rather find the next Stanley Kubrick and test film for him.

Johansson praises the new film

Scarlett Johansson is one of Hollywood’s most sought after actors and has made a name for herself in several genres. Among other things, she was nominated for an Oscar for best female lead in the Netflix film “Marriage Story” (2020).

For the past decade, she has also played the superhero “Black Widow” in the “Avengers” universe. Now the character gets a separate film with a planned release in 2021, where parts of the film are recorded in Norway.

In the past, she has gone out against the sexualization of the character, but praises the new film for distancing itself from just that.

– I’m a mom now, and my life is different. Ten years have passed and I have experienced things, and with that I have a much different and more mature understanding of myself. As a woman, I’m in a different place in life, she said.
