Riyadh: Saudi-Qatar flights resume after Gulf lifts embargo on Qatar

Jeddah services will resume from Thursday (January 14) and Dammam services from Saturday (January 16). Saudi Arabian Airlines has scheduled four weekly services from Riyadh and three services from Jeddah to Doha. The first service from Riyadh to Doha will depart at 4.40pm tomorrow, Saudi Airlines officials said.

Flights between Saudi Arabia and Qatar have been suspended for more than three and a half years following sanctions imposed by Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia. The agreement was reached at the GCC summit in Al Ula on Monday afternoon to lift the embargo and open the gates. The day after the signing of the Al-Ula agreement, Saudi Arabia opened its airspace to Qatar Airways.

With the opening of the borders, hand-to-hand traffic has been on the rise since Saturday. The Salwa entrance is also open for vehicular traffic. It is hoped that with the lifting of the embargo, more flights will be launched between the two countries in the coming weeks.
