But another trace of the girl’s possible presence in London is represented by the testimony of a man, who at the time worked at the Ministry of Defense and on whom the investigators are now focusing: “This person – said Pietro Orlandi – said that Emauela left Rome in the summer of 1983 on board a plane. She is a person who worked at the Ministry of Defence, she was part of the private secretariat of Spadolini, who became minister on 4 August”.
“He told me – continues Orlandi – that in August Cardinal Piovanelli showed up on behalf of the Vatican and requested a CAI flight, a secret service flight, from Rome to London, with a night departure in August ’83 from Ciampino airport. Four people on board, two men and two women, with only the pilot and co-pilot. The coincidences are too many: the period, the closeness that Spadolini had with the Vatican, he was a friend of John Paul II. This person told me which from the way they talked about it, it wasn’t the first time that the Vatican had used flights of this type.”
