Emails proving that the son of the current US president was working to save Romanian tycoon Puiu Popoviciu, convicted of corruption

Several email exchanges, retrieved from a laptop that belonged to Hunter Biden and published by Daily Mail, shows how the son of the former US vice president, who has now become president of the US, worked to save prison of the Romanian tycoon Puiu Popoviciu.

The emails show discussions between Hunter Biden, former FBI chief Louis Freeh and more lawyer. In one of the emails, sent in the summer of 2016, Hunter Biden tells Freeh that Popoviciu is his client, that he has become very close to him and that Popoviciu “is being treated badly by the suspicious Romanian judicial system”.

Biden Junior asked Freeh to take over Popoviciu’s case, and after the case was taken over by the former FBI chief, who became a lawyer, a plan to rescue Popoviciu was devised. The plan also included a media campaign, including in the Wall Street Journal, as well as meetings with the US ambassador in Romania, Hans Klemm, and Romanian officials.

right Daily Mail, between Hans Klem and one of Popoviciu’s lawyers, at least one meeting took place, in which Hunter Biden also participated.

A source in Popoviciu’s legal team told DailyMail.com that “at no time did I ask the US ambassador (or anyone else at the embassy) to make a statement about the case or intervene in any way.”

The lawyer stated that the American team explained to Popoviciu’s foreign representatives “the reality that the US Embassy and the US Ambassador will not intervene before the Romanian Government regarding the criminal investigation corruption“.

“The legal team has always been careful to limit any” request “to the US embassy to make an introduction to relevant Romanian government officials or to provide advice on Romanian legislation or protocol,” the lawyer said.

Popoviciu was sentenced, on August 2, 2017, by the High Court of Cassation and Justice to 7 years in prison for complicity in abuse in service and bribery, in the “Baneasa” file. When the Romanian judiciary handed down the sentence, Puiu Popoviciu was in Great Britain and surrendered, accompanied by a lawyer, to the officers from the London Metropolitan Police. He was later released on bail of 200,000 euros. The extradition procedure is in progress.
