Anyone who received two doses of a corona vaccine appears to be protected against the more contagious delta variant. ‘Practical data shows that two doses protect against the delta variant,’ says Marco Cavaleri, responsible for the vaccine strategy of the European Medicines Agency EMA.

The European branch of the World Health Organization (WHO) reported on Wednesday that the number of Covid infections had started to rise again last week after ten weeks of declines. The delta variant is also advancing.
‘We are aware of the concerns about the rapid spread of the delta variant,’ says Cavaleri. ‘But at the moment it seems that the four vaccines that the European Union (EU) has approved offer protection against all strains circulating in Europe, including the delta variant.’ The four vaccines approved in the EU are those from Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Janssen.
The WHO expects the delta variant to become dominant in Europe by August. The ECDC, the European Center for Disease Control, had already indicated this earlier.
