Ema Kapustová Dominates Biathlon World Cup as Second Best Shooter, Slovak Sensation

Ema Kapustová’s successful entry into her first Biathlon World Cup season is mainly a reflection of her great performances on the shooting range. According to the statistics of the International Biathlon Union (IBU), the young Slovak is currently the second best shooter among all the women who appeared in the opening three rounds of the WC 2023/2024 in Östersund, Hochfilzen and Lenzerheide.

“In the six completed races, the 21-year-old native of Revúca shot 76 targets out of 81 shots, which is a success rate of 93.8%. She is currently on a streak of 35 accurate shots in a row. Only the German Franziska Preussová has a better record (94.6%).” warned the specialized website Slovak Biathlon. Kapustová has an even better record in individual competitions (without mixed relays and relays), where her hitting success rate climbed to 94.3% and even to 97.1% in standing shooting.

For comparison, the leader of the SP women’s French Justine Braisazová-Bouchetová is only in 62nd place in shooting success with an average of 84.62%, but she completed eight individual races, while Kapustová five. The inexperienced Slovakian is ranked 56th in the World Cup with 13 points for 28th place in the pursuit race in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.

“Her talent was very well picked up at a young age and it’s really great how accurately and quickly she can shoot in almost any conditions. Of course, she makes a mistake sometimes, but you have to know why it happened, where it went, and that’s her good that he really understands it. He doesn’t speculate, he doesn’t want to invent something in the race that he doesn’t have.

Of course we can’t fall asleep and continue working on it. We have to make it difficult in training, ideally to the extent that the conditions in some training sessions are more difficult than in the races. Then she will be fine in the long run,” said coach Martin Otčenáš about his charge to slovenskybiatlon.sk.

The Biathlon World Cup will continue after the New Year on January 4-7 with an event in Oberhof, Germany.
