Already now, two months before the start of the European Championship, numerous names for Löw’s successor are in circulation. Coaches like Jürgen Klopp, Lothar Matthäus or Hansi Flick are mentioned again and again. Flick, coach of FC Bayern Munich, was brought up on the subject again on Tuesday (March 16, 2021) at a press conference. The coach of SC Freiburg, who is known for his emotional coaching and his dialect, has been praised for years for his constant and good work in Breisgau. Only recently, moderator Marcel Reif had thrown in the name prank. Reif particularly addressed the connection between Freiburg’s coach and DFB President Fritz Keller, who had worked together for years in the Black Forest. In December 2020, Streich was confronted with a possible position as national coach – at that time he said: “There are a few hundred others who can or should become German national coach.”

“I think that’s too much for the honor.”
