Munich is vehemently and creatively defending itself against UEFA’s ban on lighting the Munich stadium in rainbow colors. OB Reiter announced several actions.
Munich – How had Munich’s Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter scolded the UEFA ban on the stadium during the INGame of the Germans National team against Hungary in rainbow colors * to illuminate. It is shameful that one should not set an example for diversity, tolerance, respect and solidarity. Not only was Reiter angry, criticism also came from numerous German politicians.
But Munich is not going to let the ban sit on itself and is planning alternative statements. Anger turned into creativity. Just a few hours after the UEFA * decision, Reiter was defiant: “We will not let ourselves be deterred in Munich from sending a clear signal in the direction of Hungary,” said the SPD politician Bavarian Broadcasting and announced that several landmarks of the Bavarian capital would be brightly illuminated.
Rainbow color ban for Allianz Arena: Munich’s mayor rider uses trick
For example, the Olympic Tower is to be illuminated in multiple colors. The town hall is to be flagged with rainbow flags. Reiter proved to be particularly creative with an object that was very close to the Allianz Arena* stands. Because a wind turbine right around the corner of the arena will also be brightly lit, said the mayor.
The stadium will not be colorful in photos or TV images, but the wind turbine, which is clearly visible to all fans and only a few hundred meters away, will be. So, with a trick, Munich still manages to send a signal in the direction of Hungary. In the future, the country will ban advertising by corporations that express solidarity with homosexuals. In the EU, the law sparked a wave of protests.
In addition to Munich, other initiators are planning actions to protest against Hungary
But not only the city is planning alternatives. The initiators of the Christopher Street Day want to distribute 11,000 flags in rainbow colors with other supporters in front of the stadium. According to the Green Councilor Gudrun Lux, more rainbow flags could be seen in Munich.
She also urged the national team to follow the example Manuel Neuer* to follow and wear a rainbow armband in the game against Hungary. But that should then lead to an investigation by UEFA. With DFB captain Neuer, UEFA had considered investigations, but then discontinued them and put the case on file as a “good cause”. (mt) *tz.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA
