The Elysée Palace has sent out invitations to the leaders of the parties represented in the French Parliament for a meeting on March 7, which will be dedicated to the situation in Ukraine.
Macron’s statements about the possible sending of soldiers to Ukraine have not been received with much understanding among the opposition and European colleagues, and the president wants to discuss this issue with all French political forces, reports “Le Figaro”.
In an interview with the newspaper, the leader of the list compiled by Macron, Valeria Ayer, tried to defend the president’s position.
“The security of Ukrainians is our security. Therefore, no option should be ruled out,” said the politician.
“We are not going to tell Putin that we are going to exclude the possibility of self-defense in principle – these are the very basic foundations of the strategy,” Ayera said.
Macron said Monday after a meeting of European leaders that there was no consensus on sending Western ground troops to Ukraine, while saying “nothing should be ruled out.”
Most of Macron’s European allies said they would not send troops to Ukraine, but French officials explained that the troops could be sent for support operations, such as demining, rather than fighting Russian troops.
