Elye Wahi may be spending his last moments in Montpellier this season. The young Franco-Ivorian striker panics the counters in Ligue 1.
The 20-year-old is having a very good season on an individual level. He has scored 12 goals and two assists in 24 Ligue 1 games. His progress has attracted many clubs in Europe. Several EPL clubs including Arsenal and Tottenham, AC Milan, Dortmund and even OM are among the contenders for his signature.
Taken to decide on the future of his player on RMC SportMichel Der Zakarian was realistic:
We know that in the short term he will have to move. We know we can’t keep it. But that’s how it is… A lot of clubs today operate like that. We have very good players, but they often leave. This is why our championship is very very good. He is denigrated by many people, but I think we have a good championship. We have good players who are in demand in the best European clubs.
Der Zakarian clearly knows he could lose his 20-year-old star this summer. However, Elye Wahi will not leave at any price. On France Blue Heraultthe Montpellier coach recently set the price for the young Franco-Ivorian:
The kid, he is 20 years old, he is steeped in talent. It’s expensive. For me, at least 25 or 30 million euros. When you see the TV rights over there, England can afford it. It’s easier for them. He’s a sprinter, he goes very fast but sometimes, after 45 minutes, he explodes. He has to work better, it’s every day in training.
If he wants to go to a big club and play with big players, he has to work harder. He can go very high, at a very, very good level. Scoring goals the way he does, you have to put them in the back. At his age, that’s what he does, but I think he can do even better.
Elye Wahi is linked to Montpellier until 2025. On the market, he is valued at 25 million euros. He has an annual salary of around 100,000 euros (65,000,000 FCFA) per year.
Very soon, Montpellier will play its match of the 29th day of the French championship against Marseille. Betting company 1xbet (you can download 1xbet here) offers the following odds for the encounter – Montpellier win at 7, a draw is valued at 4.85 and Marseille win at 1.44.
