Elvira Öberg, who contested her 100th World Cup race today, had a dream start in the Pokljuka sprint. The 23-year-old began by shooting fully in the prone position. With that, she finished second after the first throw, just over eight seconds behind Paulina Fialkova from Slovakia.
Even in standing shooting, Öberg would give good results. Even then the Swede fired at full speed, so much so that it was enough for her to take the lead and then win the victory.
– Basically it’s a perfect race, says SVT expert Björn Ferry.
Sixth World Cup victory
This was Öberg’s sixth career World Cup win and second this season.
– It was difficult to start the year in a better way. I may not be very focused today, but I do the work just like in training. I felt very safe today, Öberg tells SVT Sport.
In second place came Julia Simon, who leads the overall World Cup.
The second best Swede was Linn Persson, who finished in seventh place.
Hanna Öberg didn’t come at first because she had been ill during the winter.
Röiseland has made a comeback
Marte Olsbu Röiseland returned after suffering from shingles, but the Norwegian immediately showed class when she shot full in her first shootout of the season opener. In the second pitch, Röiseland missed a shot.
