Elton John’s ex-wife has started legal proceedings against the singer, the British newspaper reported The Guardian.
The procedure consists of a request for an injunction, the nature of which has not been specified.
Renate Blauel, a sound engineer, and the singer had met in 1983 during the recording of the album Too Low for Zero. They married the following year on a trip to Australia, and were divorced in 1988. Elton John later announced that he was gay.
Mme Blauel has since remained withdrawn from all public life.
Elton John’s name is listed as a defendant in legal documents, according to The Guardian, who says he tried in vain to get comments from his representatives.
Renate Blauel’s lawyer confirmed to the newspaper that she had submitted the request for an injunction to the High Court, but declined to give further details. According to the newspaper, the lawyer limited herself to saying that her client “hoped to settle this out of court”.
Elton John is currently married to David Furnish. The couple have two children.
