Elton John settles with ex-wife in biography and film case | NOW

Elton John followedns The Guardian made a settlement with his ex-wife. Renate Blauel demanded £ 3m (about £ 3.3m) for appearing in his biography Me in film Rocketman.

“Both parties are happy to report that this case has been closed, in a way that also respects Renate’s need for privacy,” said a spokesman for the singer.

“Renate acknowledges that Elton has always behaved with respect and dignity towards her and helped her when needed. They will not talk about each other or their marriage in the future and will refrain from further comment on this matter.”

John and Blauel were married from 1984 to 1988. When they split up in 1988, Blauel had it included in the terms that no details about their marriage would be disclosed.

She found that John violated this condition by dedicating eight pages in his biography to her. In the film Blauel is played by Celinde Schoenmaker. The Dutch actress is minutes in Rocketman to see.

Passages in the book were removed

Blauel said her mental problems were reoccurring through the passages in the book and parts of the film. She also felt that the way their marriage has been described is inconsistent with reality.

Some requests to extract passages from the book were granted. However, she also wanted to get rid of the piece in which John says that he never intended to have a family with her. This request was denied.

John released his autobiography in 2019. The film was released in the same year Rocketman, in which actor Taron Egerton plays the singer.

John began a relationship with David Furnish in 1993. The two entered into a registered partnership in 2005 and married in 2014. In England and Wales that year, marriage was opened to same-sex couples. The couple has two sons.
