Elton John Receives Best Live Show Award at Emmy Awards, Joins Exclusive “EGOT” Club

The artist was not present that evening to collect his prize on stage, but this reward gave him access to a very exclusive club called “EGOT”. What is it about ? This anagram “EGOT” is made up of the four major artistic prizes awarded in the United States: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.
Each of these awards represents an artistic discipline. The Emmy is for television, the Oscar for cinema, the Grammy for music and the Tony for theater. Few artists have received these four distinctions during their career. Elton John is the 19th artist to join this club. Producer Ben Winston made a speech on stage at the Emmy Awards talking about the singer Rocket Man saying : ” We didn’t know that what would be historic would be the victory of a man who invented all the soundtracks of our lives, the one who did so much for society, one of our heroes, we didn’t know that he was going to win an EGOT ».
He therefore joins artists like Audrey Hepburn, Whoopi Goldberg, Mel Brooks, John Legend and Viola Davis.
