Elton John (75) made a stop in the capital Washington during his farewell tour of the United States of America. In the garden in front of the White House, on Friday (September 23) the British musician performed his greatest hits such as “I’m Still Standing”, “Rocket Man” or “Crocodile Rock”.

The 45-minute concert was part of “A Night When Hope and History Rhyme,” an event with which the White House honored “everyday history writers” such as nurses, teachers or activists. Among the approximately 2,000 guests were Afghan Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai (25) and former tennis player and activist Billie Jean King (78).

Special thanks also go to Elton John. United States President Joe Biden (79) thanked him, among other things, for his music and his commitment to the fight against HIV. He then presented him with the National Humanities Medal. He recognizes individuals or organizations whose work has promoted understanding of the humanities. “I’m never flabbergasted, but I’m flabbergasted,” said Elton John in tears during the delivery.

For him this performance was “the icing on the cake”, even though he had “already played in beautiful places”. But the singer was also critical: “I just wish America could be more bipartisan.”

Joe Biden: “Our family loves his music”

During Donald Trump’s tenure, the Democratic Party supporter had repeatedly turned down an invitation to the White House. But the change of government made him change his mind. Much to Joe Biden, whom his wife Jill (71) described as a “huge fan who is also the president of the United States”. Joe Biden agrees: “Like many Americans, our family loves his music.” As his memories of him reveal, he sang “Crocodile Rock” with his children on their way to school.
