The cinema in Elsdorf has been closed for a long time. It would need renovation. The cinema is now at least a small step closer to reopening.

According to the city, the NRW Ministry of Culture has selected the Elsdorf cinema for a special funding program. This means that the cinema in Elsdorf has prevailed against around 100 other projects.
The funding commitment includes 50,000 euros and support from a program office that will provide advice. A concept for the cinema will be developed over the next twelve months. It should also address the need for renovation and how the cinema could be used beyond film screenings.
If this concept is convincing, another 450,000 euros will be available to make the whole thing a reality. However, the city is putting the brakes on everyone who longs for the Elsdorf cinema to reopen: an economically sensible concept for the cinema must first be created.
