Elon Musk’s X (Formerly Twitter) Aims to Compete with YouTube, LinkedIn, and PR Newswire

The short message service X sees services such as YouTube, LinkedIn and PR Newswire as rivals.

According to a media report, tech billionaire Elon Musk wants to use his online platform X (formerly Twitter) to compete with services such as YouTube and the career network LinkedIn. Musk and X boss Linda Yaccarino described these offers as future competitors in front of their employees, writes the financial service Bloomberg.

Musk and Yaccarino have also spoken of plans to compete with corporate information dissemination services such as PR Newswire with their own offering called XWire, a source said. When taking over Twitter, Musk had already announced that he wanted to build the platform as an “app for everything” – among other things, X should also offer financial transactions. Shortly before the first anniversary of Musk’s takeover of the company, X enabled video and voice calling for some users.

Musk bought Twitter a year ago for $44 billion (currently around 42 euros). Afterwards, some advertisers left the platform because they feared a more negative environment for their brands. According to Musk, advertising revenue has halved. He now wants to make more money through subscriptions and is therefore limiting the options for free use of the service. (APA/ed.)
