Elon Musk’s Twitter Logo Change: The Story Behind the Letter X

On Monday, the micro-blogging site “Twitter” changed its name and image on the official account from “The Sparrow” to the letter X, and its owner, the American billionaire, Elon Musk, put the new logo on the image of his official account.

And the image of the official Twitter account on the same platform is the letter X written in white lettering and a black background.

The story of the letter X

An expert in the field of digital transformation and information security believes that the new Twitter logo is related to Elon Musk’s fondness for the letter X, as it always appears in the companies owned by him and also in the names of his children, considering that Musk’s decision may be hasty, due to users’ association with the old shape and logo.

The digital transformation and information security expert said, in exclusive statements to “Sky News Arabia”: “It seems that the new logo for the social networking application Twitter comes within the framework of Elon Musk’s obsession with the letter X.

Musk changed the name of Twitter to x corp, after buying the company last October. He owns a company that works in the field of space called “SpaceX” SapceX. He owns another company called TeslaX. He also has a son named XAEA 12.

Twitter replaces the blue bird logo with the letter “x”

During the last period from last October until now, Twitter has lost about 50% of the advertising revenue in the company as a result of the practices and restrictions it imposed with a set of severe decisions, including restricting the number of tweets and forcing subscribers to verify accounts in exchange for cash payments paid monthly, despite its declaration that Twitter is a platform that enjoys the greatest possible freedom of expression compared to other applications.

Why is Musk ditching the Blue Bird?

After changing the Twitter logo mask to an X, followers split into two teams about this change:

One team believes that the application loses great value as a result of customers’ association with the old name that dates back to the establishment of the company in 2006. The other team believes that this change is a transition to a new phase for the Twitter application.

The owners of the second team indicate that this change will be followed by new additions of features that make this application an integrated social networking application that can be compared to the Chinese WeChat application, which is used in social communication, e-commerce, and buying and selling in general.

Twitter has become X! Will we see the “super app” soon?

On April 23, Musk conducted a survey of Twitter users about whether or not to change the logo to X. Nearly 2 million subscribers participated in the survey, and it resulted that 51.5% approved of the idea, compared to 48.5% who rejected the idea.

Perhaps Elon Musk hastened to make a decision to change the slogan, especially since the approval rate is not a large percentage that encourages such a bold decision.

The participation of 2 million in this survey is a small number compared to the total number of users of this application, which amounts to 354 million subscribers, which means that the participation rate was less than 1%.

Twitter bids farewell to the blue bird

What happened on Twitter?

The image of the official Twitter account on the same platform is now the letter X written in white with a black background. The account name also changed to the letter X, but the word “Twitter” remained in small print after the @ email sign. The logo that accompanied “Twitter” since its inception, the white bird with a blue background, was absent from the account, which is followed by 65 million tweeters. Some other official Twitter accounts, such as the business account, did not change the old logo until Monday morning. This appears to be a first step towards implementing Musk’s promise to change the platform’s name and logo.
