Ministry of Communications and Informatics (Communication) refers to satellite-based Internet services Starlink owned Elon Musk has passed the Operating Value Test (ULO). This means that Starlink can now serve Indonesian retail customers.
Director of Telecommunications, Director General of PPI, Ministry of Communications and Information, Aju Widya Sari, said that Starlink has received the Certificate of Value of Operation (SKLO) as an official form of internet sales to end users in the country.
“Starlink already has a telecom operator’s license. Everything has been completed. (ULO) has been completed,” Aju said when he met with Apjatel’s Halal Bihalal frontline in Jakarta, Monday (29 /4/2024).
“As a result, (Starlink) has passed the operational feasibility test. Therefore, they have received permission (from Kominfo to sell internet services to retail customers),” he continued he on.
When asked when the Starlink ULO was made, Aju admitted that he did not remember the time. But what is certain is that Starlink can provide internet services to the region business to the consumer (B2C).
“It was completed two weeks ago. It is time to check, but it is clear that it has been completed. (SKLO) is clear that it is published and it can be sold,” Aju said.
For your information, Starlink has been present in Indonesia since June 2020, at that time only providing access to business customers. Starlink was granted the right to launch a special non-geostationary satellite (NGSO) by the Ministry of Communications and Information (Kominfo).
This anchoring right relates to backup services in the closed network operations of Telkom’s subsidiary, namely Telkomsat.
Now, having passed the ULO, Starlink is legally and officially selling internet to the general Indonesian public.
