Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia The rocket belonging to Elon Musk’s company, Falcon 9, allegedly perforated the ionosphere which is the layer of the atmosphere, after taking off last July 19. New analysis from Boston University space physicist Jeff Baumgardner confirms the reports Spaceweatherarchive.com the.

He said there was a possibility that the launch of the SpaceX rocket carrying the Starlink satellite made a hole in the Ionosphere, quoted from Interesting EngineeringThursday (10/8/2023).

“It’s a well-studied phenomenon when rockets burn their engines 200 to 300 km [sekitar 120 hingga 190 mil] above the Earth’s surface,” Baumgardner told Spaceweatherarchive.

Holes in the ionosphere are identified by their distinctive red color. This is because the oxygen ions in the atmosphere report reacting with the electrons that come out of the rocket exhaust. The light is of the same wavelength as the red aurora.

As it turned out, after the July 19 launch, that same red glow was visible in the sky.

The ionosphere is a layer of electrically charged plasma particles. This layer is at an altitude of between 80-650 km, the boundary between the upper atmosphere and the edge of outer space.

A number of satellites are in or above the ionosphere. Satellite signals are transmitted through the layer.

This is not the first time that SpaceX has been suspected of perforating the ionosphere. This was found on a Falcon 9 rocket that took off in 2017.

After five minutes the Falcon9 rocket took off making a ‘celestial circular acoustic shock’ wave. A report published in the journal Space Weather found an ionospheric plasma hole with a diameter of about 900 km and TEC depletion of 10-70%.
