Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Instead of supporting genocide Israel towards Gazans such as a number of Western figures, billionaires Elon Musk chose to suggest a peaceful path in the form of “conspicuous acts of kindness.”
Israel’s war in Gaza has sparked debate and discussion since the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel a month ago. Western governments tend to support Israeli attacks.
Several technology giants also condemned Hamas and did not do otherwise against Israel, as did Meta, and its leader Mark Zuckerberg, and TikTok.
Meanwhile, the owner of X, formerly known as Twitter, Elon Musk advocates an alternative path to peace between Israel and Hamas amidst their war in Gaza.
In an interview with the podcast host Lex Fridman On Friday last week, Musk said that Hamas’ aim in attacking Israel was not to win, but to trigger upheaval in the Muslim world on the Palestine-Israel issue.
“[Hamas] really want to commit the worst atrocities they can to provoke the most aggressive response from Israel and then leverage that aggressive response to rally Muslims around the world for Gaza and Palestine,” Musk said.
“So the counterintuitive thing here, the thing that I think should be done, even though it’s very difficult, is I would recommend that Israel do the most conspicuous acts of kindness ever, that’s the thing that would actually derail Hamas’ goals,” he continued.
The war in Gaza began early last month after Hamas militants killed more than a thousand Israeli civilians in a surprise attack.
Israeli military counterattacks have killed more than 11,000 Palestinians, including more than 4,000 children, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
Musk said he still supports “killing or imprisoning” Hamas members if necessary. However, he said, humanitarian feelings in Gaza, for example, could destroy support for Hamas.
“There’s talk of setting up, for example, a mobile hospital. I recommend doing that. Just make sure, you know, there’s food, water and medical necessities,” Musk said.
The SpaceX CEO also noted Israel’s attempted bombing and ground invasion of Gaza would likely backfire on the country and create more resistance against Israel, instead of destroying Hamas.
“For every Hamas member you kill, how much do you make?” he said, “If you kill someone’s child in Gaza, you have at least made some people members of Hamas.”
The comments come amid growing calls for a ceasefire in the conflict.
The Israeli government agreed, on orders from the Biden administration, to stop fighting for four hours to help civilians this week, but has not yet considered a full ceasefire.
French President Emmanuel Macron led the call for a ceasefire on Friday, saying there was “no justification” for Israel’s war efforts against civilians in Gaza.
“In the short term, we need to work to protect civilians. To do that, we need an immediate humanitarian pause and we must work towards a ceasefire.” Macron said.
“This is very important for all of us because our principles are a democratic country,” he continued.
Musk has previously warned of the dangerous potential of an escalation of the Israel-Hamas war and said it could easily turn into “World War III.”
This isn’t the first time Elon Musk has weighed in on the conflict.
In October, quoted from Business Insider, Musk offered to bring Starlink internet to Gaza, to help aid groups and civilians. The move angered Israel, which had cut off internet and telephone networks in Gaza days earlier.
Musk was also accused of spreading misinformation about the conflict at The Washington Post.
