Billionaire Elon Musk’s medical technology company Neuralink has implanted a brain chip into a second patient. In a podcast, Musk gave few details about the second participant, who is said to have a similar spinal cord injury to the first patient. The latter is paralyzed as a result of a diving accident.

Musk said 400 of the implant’s electrodes worked in the second patient’s brain. Neuralink states on its website that its implant uses 1,024 electrodes.

Musk: Eight more brain chips will be implanted in 2024

Musk did not disclose when Neuralink operated on the second patient. The Tesla boss said he expects Neuralink to implant eight more patients this year as part of its clinical trials.

The first patient can now play video games, surf the Internet and move a cursor using the brain chip. In the long term, Musk wants to use such chips to help patients suffering from Parkinson’s disease, dementia or depression.
