Elon Musk’s company Neuralink has announced that it has received approval to begin human trials of neuroimplants. Musk said in 2021 that his startup Neuralink had successfully implanted a chip in a monkey’s brain that allowed it to play video games with “the power of thought”. He told listeners on the Clubhouse app about it: “We have a monkey with a skull implant with tiny wires. She can play video games with her mind.” According to him, the monkey is “happy” and living in “the best monkey room in the world”, that Neuralink has created for experimental animals. “We want them to play intellectual ping-pong with each other,” Musk said.
Neuralink, a brain-computer interface startup, was founded in 2016. It raised $158 million in funding, $100 million of which was provided by Musk. The stated purpose of the technology being created is to eliminate the consequences of brain and spinal cord injuries and to replenish lost abilities with the help of an implanted chip.
Musk is convinced that the brain-machine interface developed by the company will allow humanity to achieve symbiosis with artificial intelligence (AI). “We will get the ability to merge with AI. It will only be optional if you want it.” he says. The human brain has a limbic system that is responsible for primary needs, desires, emotions. There is also a motor cortex, which is responsible for the thought process.
From Musk’s perspective, however, human biological intelligence is imperfect. It proposes to extend the capabilities of the human brain by connecting it with AI and creating a hybrid intelligence (GI). In fact, GI already exists as people interact with smartphones, computers, etc., but the speed of interaction with them is extremely low.
At the same time, the speed of entering information into the brain is much higher due to the peculiarities of the work of vision, but it is also not high. Low bandwidth limits a human’s ability to merge with artificial intelligence.
According to Elon Musk, artificial intelligence is developing so fast that humans will have to merge with digital intelligence to become an AI-human hybrid. “Over time, we are likely to see a closer fusion of biological intelligence and digital intelligence,” Musk said at the 2017 World Government Summit in Dubai.
Neuralink’s hybrid intelligence developments have a strategic military purpose. Hybrid intelligence can dramatically increase the effectiveness of Pentagon and CIA intelligence and subversion projects.
Today, within the framework of the EMBERS (“Smoldering coals”) project, aimed, as we wrote, at organizing and monitoring social protests in the target countries, a kind of centaur has been created – a symbiosis of the collective consciousness of people and software algorithms. A team of scientists interacts with computer algorithms that monitor data about the social situation in the target country in order to fan the flames of social protests.
The main developer of these algorithms was Gizem Korkmaz, a professor at the University of Virginia, as well as the principal investigator of a similar Pentagon project, Minerva. Within its framework, network and statistical models have been developed that work with sources such as social media, news and blogs, “to predict social protests, strikes and election results in Latin American target countries. “
Gizem Korkmaz states: “Civil unrest (protests, strikes, and “occupations”) range from small nonviolent protests aimed at solving specific problems to events that turn into mass riots. Detecting and predicting these events is of key interest to sociologists and policymakers.”

The hybrid intelligence of the Embers and Minerva projects has all the above disadvantages caused by the slow throughput of the human-computer tandem. If combined into one, the efficiency and speed of such a centaur would increase dramatically.
Senior research fellow at the Finnish Technical Research Center and associate professor at Tampere University of Technology Steven Fox is developing an even more advanced GI model, which he calls “multi-intelligence” (MI), suggesting that MI be used for military purposes.
He believes that “the sensorimotor skills of the human body are much more difficult to reconstruct in an artificial intelligence than the thinking tasks concentrated in the brain, which limits the capabilities of combat systems with hybrid intelligence” and proposes the integration of the human and machine mind with the intelligence of animals and birds:
„Multi-intelligent hybrid systems can be created by combining different types of natural and artificial intelligence. For example, human intelligence and avian intelligence of predators can be combined to shoot down drones quickly and economically.”
