CEO Tesla, Elon Musk apparently has a way of testing people’s honesty. He often does this when interviewing prospective employees.
When interviewing prospective employees, Elon Musk will ask two questions to find out whether the person he is talking to is a liar or not. If he’s honest, he deserves to be accepted to work where he is.
This was revealed from a question and answer session with Auto Bild magazine in 2017. At that time, Musk was asked about the skills expected for each prospective candidate.
Instead of focusing on college degrees or college qualifications, Musk admits he usually only focuses on the ultimate question.
“I’m really just asking: What was the most difficult problem you’ve ever experienced and how did you solve it. And how did they make decisions at key transition points,” answered the SpaceX boss.
With just that question, Musk admitted that he could get a very good feeling about someone and could reveal whether he had been lied to.
Quoting UNILAD, Musk said that usually people who have to struggle with a problem, they really understand it and don’t forget it.
“So you can ask them very detailed questions about it and they will know the answer. Whereas people who aren’t actually responsible for the achievement, won’t know the details,” Musk said.
Therefore, these two questions became Musk’s final questions for conducting interviews with potential candidates. According to Indeed, this method is one of the 8 common problem-solving questions that you might be asked if you are going to face a job interview.
