Elon Musk’s Acquisition of Twitter and the Battle for @elonjet: Behind the Scenes Revealed in New Book

Jakarta

Elon Musk officially became the new owner Twitter, which later changed its name to Xsince October 2022. It turns out that Musk had his own motives when buying Twitter for USD 44 billion.

This reason is revealed in the book ‘Battle for the Bird’ which contains behind-the-scenes of Musk’s acquisitions and the shift in power at Twitter in recent years.

In a quote uploaded by Bloomberg, Musk apparently bought Twitter to silence the account of the owner of the @elonjet account which tracked the location and route of his private plane’s flights.

“Musk also unsuccessfully asked Agrawal (Parag Agrawal, CEO of Twitter at the time) to delete the Twitter account that tracked his private plane,” reads an excerpt from the book ‘Battle for the Bird, as quoted from Gizmodo, Tuesday (13/2/2024).

Kurt Wagner, author of the book ‘Battle for the Birds’, said in a tweet on Twitter Musk asked Agrawal to delete the @elonjet account in January 2022. But Agrawal did not comply with Musk’s request, and at the end of January Musk started buying Twitter shares.

The @elonjet account itself is managed by a student named Jack Sweeney who uses public flight information for his tweets. Sweeney previously shared the information in real-time, but then postponed it 24 hours after being bullied by Musk.

@elonjet’s Twitter/X account has now been blocked, but a month earlier Musk had promised not to block the account for the sake of freedom of opinion. Now Sweeney and the @elonjet account are active on Threads.

Musk is not the only famous person who has been irritated by Sweeney’s actions. Not long ago, Taylor Swift threatened to sue Sweeney if he didn’t stop uploading his private plane route.
