Billionaire Elon Musk strongly advocates freedom of speech and the opportunity for everyone to express themselves. He has proven this once again on his platform “X”. Musk has reportedly reinstated conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’ “X” account, which was once blocked specifically for spreading disinformation.
Elon Musk reinstated Jones’ “X” account last weekend and welcomed him back to the platform. The two gentlemen also conducted an hour-and-a-half live interview about Jones’ infamous reputation and the conspiracy theories he peddled.
Jones’ “X” (then “Twitter”) account was blocked back in 2018. He was known for his penchant for spreading lies and misinformation. Some examples include comparing a CNN reporter to the “Hitler Youth”. He also lied about a school shooting that killed 20 children and six adults, falsely claiming that the bloody incident was fabricated and part of a government conspiracy. He was later charged with defamation and ordered to pay over a billion in fines.
Musk had previously said that he would not renew Jones’ “X” account because he “has no mercy for anyone who uses the death of children to gain political recognition and fame.” But in recent months, Musk seems to have become more tolerant towards the views of the extreme right, and we already wrote that he supported conspiracy theories. This resulted in Jones being welcomed back to “X” on the condition that he does not violate the platform’s rules.
