It is not known if Musk was aware that the soldier was from the German army.
In the photo, which has been modified with the number three as a symbol for Twitter messages, the soldier can be seen with a box containing pigeons on his back.
The soldier also wears a badge steel helmet – which is the name of the helmets used by German soldiers during World War II.
During the Second World War, pigeons were used, among other things, to send messages. Britain in particular used pigeons during the war.
A bird is also the symbol of the Twitter company, a word that originally means chirping of birds.
Shortly after the Twitter message with the soldier, Elon Musk wrote that American voters should vote Republican in the country’s midterm elections, as the president is a Democrat.
Several people on Twitter react strongly to Musk’s use of images.
– Elon Musk shares a Nazi meme, then asks his followers to vote Republican, writes Reuters reporter Jonathan Landay on Twitter.
– After two days (as Twitter boss, journ.anm.), Elon Musk tweeted memes with a Nazi quote or image, writes podcast host Keith Olbermann on Twitter.
Musk has been explicit in his stated goal of ensuring that Twitter maintains and accepts as many speeches as possible, as long as it doesn’t violate individual country laws.
