Elon Musk suggests ‘link to ownership and source of financing’ for media organizations: BBC report

Twitter owner Elon Musk has been in email contact with the BBC. In it, according to the broadcaster, he explains that the ‘link to ownership and source of financing is probably useful’. Media organizations should be “self-aware and not falsely claim that there is no bias,” Musk said.

“All organizations have biases, some clearly much more than others. I should note that I follow BBC News on Twitter as I think it’s one of the least biased,” said the Twitter boss.

The annual contribution from the British is 159 pounds (about 181 euros) per household. That accounted for 71 percent of total revenue for the BBC last year. The amount is set by the British government, according to the BBC. The broadcaster also says it receives more than 90 million pounds a year from the government for BBC World Service, a part that mainly attracts a non-British audience.

But those contributions are independent of independence, the broadcaster explains. The BBC refers to its charter, which states that the organization must be ‘independent’, including on ‘editorial and creative decisions’.

Also American radio broadcaster

An American radio broadcaster was previously given the same label as the BBC. However, this label was already criticized after Twitter had referred to the broadcaster as ‘state-affiliated media’. This placed the broadcaster in the same corner as, for example, Russian media. According to a statement from the radio broadcaster, Musk admitted that the label may not have been the right one.

The labeling of this media comes just days after The New York Times’ verified status on Twitter expired. Thanks to that status, users of Twitter knew that the page of the American newspaper is authentic and not a fake account.
