Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter has led to a cascade of consequences at both the business and platform levels. His early moves resulted in staff cuts and a series of changes that caused a stir among users.
Reports indicate Musk intends lay off about 50 percent of the workforce. Staff received an email stating that “in an effort to get Twitter back on track, we will go through the difficult process of shrinking our global workforce on Friday.” Musk is now the sole administrator of Twitter following the dissolution of the board and the ouster of former president Bret Taylor. He has let go of several executives including CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal and Chief Legal, Policy and Trustee Vijaya Gadde.
Musk launched a user survey on the advisability of bringing Vine back, the application that plays videos lasting six seconds and closed by Twitter in 2016. The result, after almost 5 million votes, was 70% in favor.
Also, the new address would be considering charging for video content so that the creator of the video and the platform share the benefits. However, according to the Washington Post, the plan was internally flagged as high-risk.
The Twitter review is handled by a team of Tesla engineers and software specialists. According to CNBC, more than 50 employees of Musk’s automaker have joined on Twitter since his arrival.
Musk wants make Twitter more attractive to advertisers. 90 percent of the company’s revenue comes through this route, so it wants to avoid its exit from the platform by all means. To do this, he has already sent them a statement promising to avoid hate speech.
Verified accounts on Twitter have a blue check mark next to their name, to make sure they are really the person or organization the account is named after. Musk has indicated that he will charge users for that privilege. About 420,000 accounts are those that have that verification which, according to Musk, will cost $ 8 a month as part of the Twitter Blue service.
