Elon Musk responded to reports that the number of Twitter employees currently remains at 1,300 people. He thinks the news is wrong.
Musk responded to Cnbc’s report that the number of Twitter employees currently remaining is 1,300, of which 550 are engineers. Of the 1,300 people, 75 employees are currently on leave, and 40 of them are engineers.
But according to Musk this information is wrong, because currently Twitter has 2,300 active employees. He also mentioned that there are still hundreds of employees working in the ‘trust & safety’ division, as well as thousands of contractors.
“Still hundreds of employees working at trust & safety, along with several thousand contractors,” Musk tweeted.
Since acquiring Twitter last October, Musk has indeed made a major overhaul of the social media platform. Starting from the big layoffs that were carried out for almost 50% of its employees, to the reshuffle on the organizational side.
In addition, Twitter also lost its top 500 advertisers, who temporarily halted their advertising since Musk acquired Twitter last October, and lost about 40% of their revenue from advertising.
These advertisers are said to have disliked Musk’s approach to content moderation, including allowing Donald Trump’s return to Twitter. Fortunately, Twitter is still considered attractive and can maintain advertising agreements with the mass media because it is too profitable to stop.
Currently, Twitter still has agreements with dozens of mass media, including the Wall Street Journal, Reuters, Bloomberg, Forbes, USA Today, and so on. Likewise agreements with a number of sports leagues, such as the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, NASCAR, and PGA Tour, which will last until mid-2023.
