Vivian Jenna Wilson, Elon Musk’s transgender daughter, told NBC News in a rare interview last week that Musk was mean to her as a child and wasn’t much of a presence in her life. Wilson has largely stayed out of the public eye in the past and has not given interviews.

Musk, who owns the X messaging service, claimed in the conversation that he was “tricked” into allowing Wilson to undergo medical trans treatments at the age of 16. He told Peterson that he had “lost his son” and said that his “son is dead”. He also used his daughter’s ghost name, or former name, in the interview.

Vivian Wilson commented to NBC that Musk was not scammed. According to him, Musk knew what he was doing when he agreed to take care of the girl, which required parental consent. He says that Musk hesitated at first, but read the medical reports at least twice before signing.

Wilson says she used anti-puberty drugs before switching to hormone therapy, which she says has been a lifesaver for her and other transgender people.

Wilson thinks Musk crossed the line in the Peterson interview.

– I think he assumed I wouldn’t say anything and let this go through without objections. That’s not what I’m going to do, because if you blatantly lie about me to an audience of millions of people, I’m not going to let it go through, Wilson says.

Cold father

Wilson says that Musk was not present in his life as a child, but Wilson’s mother Justine Musk and nannies took care of him. Justine and Elon Musk divorced in 2008.

According to Wilson, Elon Musk teased her as a child about her feminine features and she describes her father as cold. He says that when he was in the fourth grade, Musk kept yelling at him on car rides because he thought Wilson’s voice was too high.

– He gets angry very quickly. He is uncaring and narcissistic, says Wilson.

Wilson filed a legal petition to change her name and gender in 2022 when she was 18 years old. At that time, she also announced that she no longer wants to have anything to do with her biological father, Elon Musk.

Elon Musk said in a video posted on X that at age 4, Wilson fit certain gay stereotypes, such as loving musicals and using certain exclamation points. According to Wilson, Musk’s statements are not true, but he said he behaved in a stereotypically feminine manner as a child.

– He doesn’t know what I was like as a child because he simply wasn’t there, Wilson commented on Threads last Thursday.

– And in the short time he was around, I was harassed relentlessly because of my femininity and my queerness.

Musk’s motives

In recent years, Elon Musk has campaigned against transgender people and policies that support them. In X, he has criticized transgender rights, promoted anti-trans content, and demanded the arrest of people who provide trans treatments to minors.

When Musk bought the messaging app X, then known as Twitter, in 2022, he overturned the app’s trans protections, such as the ban on using ghost names, the former names of transgender people.

Musk told Peterson that Wilson’s trans process has motivated him to pursue conservative politics. He said the “woke thought virus killed his son”.

“I vowed to destroy the woke thought virus after that, and we’ve made some progress,” Musk said.

Vivian Wilson says that she herself was not there when Musk heard that he is transgender. The corona pandemic had started at that time and Wilson was living with his mother.

– He is very encouraging. I love her a lot, Wilson says of her mother.
