FAJAR.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The NASA space agency recently warned Elon Musk about the SpaceX satellite. NASA said it was concerned that Elon Musk’s ambitious satellite launch plans would turn space into a busy intersection with disastrous consequences for astronauts, the International Space Station, and early detection of asteroids.
The federal space agency detailed its concerns in response to a proposal from Elon Musk’s SpaceX seeking approval to launch an additional 30,000 satellites into orbit to form a second-generation “constellation” of its Starlink broadband internet service.
In a letter to the Federal Communications Commission, the agency tasked with examining SpaceX’s plans, NASA officials warned a significant increase in total object volume would hamper its ability to direct space traffic. and cause possible impacts on NASA science and human spaceflight missions.
“If NASA is unable to receive timely and reliable conjunction notification, the quality of in-orbit protection provided to NASA will deteriorate and the safety of the International Space Station (ISS) and all other NASA assets may be affected,” NASA officials said.
NASA also noted an internal estimate that there would be a Starlink in every asteroid survey image taken for planetary defense if the plan went ahead.
