Elon Musk personally opened the Tesla giga factory in Germany

In the first phase of its work, the plant in the state of Brandenburg has to produce up to 500,000 electric cars a year

The American manufacturer Tesla has opened its new car plant near Berlin. Thirty customers received their vehicles in person from the company’s CEO Elon Musk, while German politicians applauded the carmaker, boosting the local economy, world agencies reported, quoted by BTA. The so-called gig factory in Grünheide is Tesla’s first production site for electric cars in Europe.

In the first phase of its work, the plant in the state of Brandenburg, located around the German capital, has to produce up to 500,000 electric cars a year and employ about 12,000 people.

Musk announced plans for the multibillion-dollar project in November 2019, and construction began in February 2020. The fact that the plant is already operational has impressed many in Germany, where large projects often sink into bureaucracy. Tesla started building its gig factory before it received all the necessary permits, so the site was ready to start work when the final “green light” from the Brandenburg authorities came earlier this month.

The car giant had hoped to start production last summer, but the project’s approval process dragged on, largely due to the company’s decision to add a battery factory to the site while it was still under construction.

Tesla will produce its new Model Y, a medium-sized off-road vehicle weighing about two tons and announcing a mileage of 514 kilometers. The prices of the new Tesla model start at 63,990 euros (70,590). dollars).

Another “victory” for the eastern German regions is the investment announced last week by the American microchip maker Intel (Intel) worth about 17 billion euros ($ 18.7 billion) in two new factories in Magdeburg, Saxony-Anhalt. .
