Elon Musk managed to annoy an unusual number of politicians this weekend

It’s hard to take in all the news from the weekend about it Elon Musk in one post, but we will try. The techno-mogul has been busy posting and dealing with surveys these past two days. He said that civil war in Britain is inevitable, that he is facing charges in Michigan for mishandling voter data, and that he knows that a letter is coming from five Secretaries of State to its AI chatbot has spread misinformation about the election.

On Sunday, Michigan announced it was investigating Musk’s political action committee for possible violations of state law. Musk launched America PAC after denying reports that he planned to donate $45 million a month to Trump’s re-election bid. The money wasn’t real, but the PAC was.

What happened to the system during the voting?

When America launched a PAC a website, there was a “register to vote” button and a “request a ballot” button. According to s CNBC report, when clicking the “register to vote” button, the site directed the user to different locations, depending on where they lived. If you lived in California, for example, the site sent you to that state’s voter registration page.

But if you lived in a battleground state like Michigan, the site asked you to fill out a form with your detailed personal information. It didn’t send users to a registration page, and it didn’t explain what it did with all this personal information.

“We will refer potential violations to the Michigan Attorney General’s office, as appropriate,” he told Reuters spokesman for the Michigan secretary of state. “Every citizen needs to know exactly how PACs use their personal information, especially if an entity claims to help people register to vote in Michigan or any other state.”

As of this writing, the “register to vote” or “request a ballot” buttons no longer appear on America PAC’s website.

In other news related to Musk and the elections, five secretaries of state write an open letter to the CEO on the assumption that his AI’s Grok Chatbot spreading false information. Michigan is involved here as well, but Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon is the person in charge. The other Secretaries are from Washington, Pennsylvania and New Mexico.

The problem is that Grok started telling his users that Vice President Kamala Harris was ineligible to appear on the 2024 presidential ballot because several deadlines have expired the main states.

“The deadline to run for the 2024 election has already expired in several states,” Grok’s post said, including Washington, Texas, Alabama, Indiana, Michigan, New Mexico, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

The previous secretaries said in the Washington Post They plan to send the letter on Monday. The letter asks Musk to “immediately implement changes to AI X’s search engine, Grok, to ensure voters have accurate information in this critical election year.”

Musk also turned his satirical eye towards the United Kingdom over the weekend. Last week, a 17-year-old knife-wielding boy stabbed and killed three children and injured eight others in Southport, UK. Police arrested suspect Axel Muganwa Rudakubana, who is so British he was born in Cardiff and once appeared in a charity advert, dressed as Doctor Who.

But there were rumors on the internet about Rudakubana, saying that he was an illegal immigrant and that rumors caused waves of riots over the weekend. Photos of the riots spread on social media, and Musk responded to the video of the riots on X. “Civil war is inevitable,” he admitted.

“There is absolutely no justification for such comments,” Dave Pares, a spokesman for British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, told reporters on Monday. “Whoever incites this violence, whether it’s online or in person, he may be prosecuted and sentenced to imprisonment.”

We’ll see how Mr. Musk does the rest of the week.
