Elon Musk is giving away a million dollars every day until Election Day

Elon Musk, probably Donald Trump‘s most prominent supporter, has promised to give away one million dollars (the equivalent of almost 920,000 euros) every day until the presidential election in November to someone who signs his online petition in support of the US Constitution. This initiative is intended to encourage Republicans in the important, battleground state of Pennsylvania to register to vote.

The Tesla founder initially offered $47 for registered voters in Pennsylvania, then increased the amount to $100. During a pro-Trump event in Harrisburg on Saturday, Musk announced the $1 million raffle. Wasting no time, he handed the first check to a participant in the rally, a man named John Dreher. Musk said his goal is to get up to 2 million voters in battleground states to sign his petition in support of the First and Second Amendments of the U.S. Constitution.

The petition was launched by the Trump lobby group America PAC, founded by Musk. Participants at Saturday’s event were required to sign the petition and provide America PAC with their contact information. The signatories do not have to be Republicans; any Democrat eligible to vote in Pennsylvania could also sign it. However, Musk hopes that by spending millions he can encourage Trump supporters in particular who do not vote to cast their vote for the Republican candidate this time.

Was ist Musks America Pac?

Musk has recently publicly positioned himself as an important supporter of Trump. For example, he appeared alongside him at a campaign event in the state of Pennsylvania.

As US media report, Musk founded the lobby group “America PAC” in May – the abbreviation stands for “Political Action Committee”. Musk’s creation is a so-called Super PAC, which is allowed to raise unlimited donations from individuals and companies to promote election campaigns without working directly with the candidates – but in practice this independence is difficult to monitor. Direct donations to candidates remain strictly regulated.

Since then, the “America PAC” has reportedly invested over $102 million (93.6 million euros) in the US election campaign, primarily in support of Trump. According to the independent transparency organization OpenSecrets, the “America PAC” is now one of the seven largest external donors in the election campaign. (with AFP)
