Elon Musk Invites Indonesians to Move to Planet Mars All

KOMPAS.comElon Musk invites Indonesian citizens to participate in moving from Planet Earth to Planet Mars.

The invitation was made by the Tesla CEO and founder of Space Exploration Technologies Corp because Indonesia has a large population.

As reported KOMPAS.com on Tuesday (17/5/2022), Elon Musk said this when asked by reporters in the middle of his meeting with President Joko Widodo in Boca Chica, United States, Saturday (14/5/2022).

“As I said, Indonesia has tremendous potential in many ways. Indonesia has a large population and continues to grow,” said Elon Musk.

“This is very good, because we need a lot of people for the future and also (moving to) Mars,” he added.

Even so, Elon explained, there is no compulsion for the public to move to Planet Mars.

Elon emphasized that anyone who is willing to take part in a space mission to Mars must volunteer or become a volunteer.

“Voluntary! We think so. So it’s, on a voluntary basis. You know, Mars is uninhabited, so it needs our people,” he explained.

Ambitious project

Inhabiting the Red planet is a future project whose probability is still being studied through various space research.

Mars is believed to hold traces of life that can be inhabited and lived in when the Earth is full or can no longer accommodate more humans.

To date, there have been a number of unmanned spacecraft launched by various countries, which have successfully landed on Mars.

The successful landing also provides information to humans on Earth about the condition of the planet’s surface.

Realizing the dream of human migration from Earth to Mars is also one of Elon Musk’s big ambitions.

Reported from Bloomberg via KOMPAS.com, Elon Musk targets that humans will start setting foot on the fourth closest planet from the Sun as early as 2026.

Experts call it too risky

Experts say the target is still too early, because there are still many unanswered questions about space travel.

Elon Musk also admits that his plan to move some of Earth’s people to Mars has a high risk.

“To be honest, some people would probably die in the first place,” he said in an interview with X Prize Foundation founder Peter Diamandis.

There are various threats that humans may face when inhabiting Mars. First, the distance from Earth to Mars is too far for space travel.

At the very least, it takes 6-9 months of travel, so humans who do so risk being exposed to solar flares and dying before arriving at their destination.

Second, the existence of dust storms that may occur considering that most of the Martian region consists of dust. Even a large storm can block sunlight from reaching the surface of Mars.

Professor at the University of Michigan, Nilton Renno said that when these conditions occur, the surface of Mars will be as dark as midnight for 2 months.

“If you’re out there with the solar panels, you’re most likely not going to survive,” Renno said.

Lastly is the problem of supplying food, water, and oxygen as the main human needs to survive.
