(CNN) – New Twitter billionaire Elon Musk on Thursday told Twitter employees in a reminder that they will be notified by 12 noon ET on Friday to inform them of their employment status, as part of the downsizing, and said that the action is “unfortunately necessary to ensure the success of the company in the future”.
“If your work is not affected, you will be notified by email, and if your work is affected, you will be notified of the next steps,” says a copy of the e-mailed memo obtained from CNN.
“To help ensure the safety of Twitter’s employees and systems, the company’s offices will be temporarily closed,” he added, concluding the email acknowledging that it would be “an incredibly stimulating experience for employees.”
The note follows reports that Musk had planned to lay off up to half of the company’s employees after being acquired last week for $ 44 billion.
