Action Elon Musk His newly acquired Twitter “ruin” appears to have made the United Nations (PBB) was hot and felt he had to speak.
On Saturday (11/5/2022) United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk sent an open letter to the new owner of Twitter, asking him to ensure that human rights should be the main concern of the management of Twitter.
But with Musk’s decision to fire half of Twitter’s employees, Twitter’s human rights division also fell victim. According to Turk, this is not a good start.
“Twitter is part of a global revolution that is changing the way we communicate. But I’m writing this (letter) out of concern and concern about the digital public sphere and Twitter’s role in it,” Turk wrote.
“Like all companies, Twitter must understand the dangers that can arise from its platform and take steps to correct it. Respect for human rights must be an obstacle to the use and evolution of the platform,” he continued.
“In short, I ask you to ensure that human rights are the focus of the Twitter management under your leadership,” Turk said.
Under Musk’s leadership, Twitter has had to cut infrastructure costs and expenses by firing many of its employees. The number is estimated to reach 50% of total Twitter employees.
Musk also complained on his Twitter account that his social media platform was abandoned by many advertisers, which caused Twitter’s revenue to drop.
In a tweet, Musk accused activist groups of putting pressure on advertisers. Musk pointed out that Twitter hasn’t changed its content moderation strategy and added that the company is doing everything it can to placate activists.
Musk did not explain how much of Twitter’s revenue has disappeared since advertisers left, or how he could attribute the loss to pressure from activist groups.
